    Working at REI as a Cost Accountant 2 you will be given the opportunity to apply your technical knowledge and skills in a fast-paced, safety-conscious manufacturing environment.  In this multi-functional position as a Cost Accountantyou will be responsible for performing routine to moderately complex business and/or cost analyses of assigned Group's business operations and asked to recommend cost saving or profit generating opportunities and profitability improvement strategies.

    Responsibilities include

    Cost Accountant 2 will perform the following essential multi-functional tasks: 

    • Responsible for month end closing for IMS operation as well as P&L variance analysis and report preparation for management.
    • Reconciliation of GL and system inventory balances and material in transit reconciliation.
    • Participation with monthly physical inventory audit.
    • Product cost maintenance including annual update and costing new products.
    • Possible assistance with business planning function creating annual and interim forecasts.
    • May support business planning function.
    • Monitors, analyzes, and evaluates assigned Group's operating results and financial performance.
    • Reviews and compares assigned Group's operating profit and loss results to established plans, standard costs, and previous actuals.
    • Identifies and investigates factors contributing to variances.
    • Prepares routine to moderately complex analyses to determine standard costing of materials, direct labor, and direct expenses.
    • Collects, compiles information, and prepares routine to moderately complex reports on assigned Group's operational results, profit and loss performance, and achievement of strategic management objectives.
    • Reviews sales, cost of sales, expenses, and inventory transactions.
    • Identifies, researches, resolves discrepancies, and prepares correcting journal entries.
    • Participates in periodic Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and KPMG audits.
    • Interfaces with auditors and provide required documentation and analysis as required.
    • May perform test documentation for the respective internal sub-process controls.
    • Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instruction on new projects or assignments.
    • Daily interaction with internal management and staff in corporate accounting and strategy as well as production control and warehouse in the assigned Group.
    • Interaction normally involves exchanging information and giving guidance and direction on business planning and/or cost accounting procedures.
    • Works on routine to moderately complex issues of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. 
    • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

    Qualified candidates will possess

    Cost Accountant 2 Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or Finance.
    • 2-4 years recent experience with financial analysis, cost accounting/month end closing process/month end journal entries/management account/account reconciliation, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
    • Understanding of product costing and product bills of materials and roll-up.
    • Ability to work with large amounts of data. 
    • Working knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, finance principles and processes.
    • Strong attention to details, analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to multi-task, work as a team member and independently, self-driven, adaptable, and patient.
    • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines (i.e. month-end closing and business plans) and perform in a fast-paced environment.   
    • Strong communication/interpersonal skills, reading and writing skills in English, in order to communicate effectively with various levels of management and staff members.
    • Bilingual in Japanese/English a plus.
    • Proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel (Pivot Tables and Vlookup), and Power Point.
    • Work with ethics and integrity.
