    Working at REI as a Product Development Engineer I, you will assists higher-level engineers in executing research and development projects for thermal media products.  Completes assigned activities to support product formulation, material sourcing, production process development, testing and quality.

    Responsibilities include

    • Work closely with project leader to assist in evaluating and qualifying new and improved products
    • Develop or modify existing formulation to meet customer requirements, cost down and production efficiency.
    • Summarizing evaluation data for technical reporting. 
    • Support with improving existing evaluation methods for data accuracy and consistency.
    • May prepare simple experimental designs and conducts laboratory-scale testing and evaluation.
    • Participates in the research, sourcing and evaluation of raw materials required for new products, product improvements and cost down projects and Second Vendor Establishment (SVE).
    • Performs tests and analyzes raw materials to confirm their properties and characteristics, as directed.  Presents results to higher-level staff for review.
    • Assists higher-level engineers in the development and modification of production processes associated with product development and innovation. 
    • Researches and gathers information to support the definition of equipment requirements and specifications and production techniques and methods. 
    • Participates in production-scale and pre-mass production testing. 
    • Compiles and presents test data and may recommend new appropriate limits and variables for process specifications.
    • Supports engineering activities in the investigation and resolution of production problem related to product formulation or process design. 
    • Collects data and prepares routine analyses to identify the root cause of the problem.
    • Plans assigned activities and prepares reports on the status of assignments, as requested.
    • Works on routine issues of limited scope.
    • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
    • Support in keeping the lab instruments in good working condition.

    Qualified candidates will possess

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in industrial, chemistry or chemical engineering.
    • Internship to 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
    • Industrial/Chemical Engineering research and skills.
    • Good understanding of engineering theory and principles of design.
    • Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational and detailed oriented skills.
    • Experience preparing and presenting project plans to presents results to higher-level staff for review. 
    • Energetic, quick learner, innovative and eager to work in a team based environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
    • Strong math skills.
    • Proficient with Excel, Word and Power-Point required.


     Preferred Qualifications:

    • Thermal Media industry (paper, silicon, or adhesive applications) or any work involving thermal label applications highly preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of practical application of research and development from lab to final product with Industrial Engineering concepts and techniques to the development and enhancement of thermal media products (paper, silicon, or adhesive applications), preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of non-durable product supply chain and industries related to thermal media, such as printers and ink preferred.
