Overview

Ricoh Electronics, Inc. (REI) is seeking a self-motivated and energetic Safety Engineer with very good analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.  In this hands-on position, the Safety Engineer will perform a variety of functions in the production and warehouse areas, focusing on fact based hazards assessment for PPE requirements, incident investigation for effective counter measures and preventive action plans, and safety review to audit training status.

Responsibilities include

  • Develop EH&S policies, forms, manuals and procedures. Review, update and evaluate the effectiveness of current programs, policies and procedures.
  • Review SDS sheets for OSHA and environmental compliance and help maintain the chemical repository database. 
  • Plan, facilitate and conduct industrial hygiene tests for hearing, noise, air and water sampling.  Recommend and help implement corrective measures for results found not acceptable.  Coordinate annual audiogram testing.
  • Provide reviews of new equipment and/or modifications to existing equipment for compliance with REI safety specifications.
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections to maintain safe work conditions and to comply with compliance regulations.  Identify and evaluate workplace hazards.
  • Investigate and determine the root cause of incidents; recommend corrective action and follow up to ensure action is taken.
  • Prepare reports for internal use and for regulatory agencies.  Create training materials and presentations.
  • Train employees and deliver presentations, including mandated OSHA training. Ensure EH&S database is current.
  • Maintain Plant first aid supplies and coordinate First Aid Emergency Responder training.
  • Review safety and compliance regulations to identify gaps between proposed regulations and REI practices and discuss ideas for actions to ensure compliance.
  • Respond to 24-hour emergency calls including employee injuries, industrial accidents, natural disasters, power failures, fires, spills, etc. and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of employees and safeguarding of property.

 

Qualified candidates will possess

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, science or chemical engineering with 3-5 years’ experience in Safety engineering in a manufacturing environment required.
  • CSP certification is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the practical application of EH&S engineering, with emphasis on safety.
  • Thorough knowledge of injury and illness prevention and federal, state and local laws and regulations governing safety, health, and the environment.
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, project management, presentation, and math skills.
  • Must be team oriented with very good written and verbal communication skills and enjoy providing on-the-floor support to Operation groups.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
